Building our workforce

Our aim is to help build a skilled workforce with higher levels of participation and the skills necessary to meet our economy’s current and emerging needs.

Businesses in Tasmania, like businesses in other Australian states, continue to identify difficulties attracting and retaining skilled workers as a key barrier to continued growth. We are dedicated to helping business and industry overcome skill shortages and do this in a number of ways.

We identify employment opportunities in infrastructure developments and encourage, coordinate and fund workforce planning. We are also responsible for implementing employment policy at State level. One of the ways we do this is through the Partnership to Jobs program.

Tasmanian employers will compete for skilled staff against local, national and international businesses. Consequently, businesses can’t afford to be complacent about attracting and retaining employees. Our ‘Employer of Choice’ Conference is designed to provide you with an understanding of the Tasmanian labour market and help you to implement strategies to attract and retain staff.
