The Antarctic and Southern Ocean has been identified as a key trade and investment sector for Tasmania in the Economic Development Plan.
Capitalising on Tasmania’s existing strengths in the Antarctic sector; Developing Tasmania’s Antarctic Sector, A Vibrant Industry in a Global Market was launched by the Minister for Economic Development, David O’Byrne on 21 October 2011.
Developing Tasmania’s Antarctic Sector, A Vibrant Industry in a Global Market is the result of a collaborative effort by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts, Tasmanian research institutions and businesses that provide specialist Antarctic and cold climate goods and services.
Implementation of the plan will be driven by the Department in collaboration with these organisations through the Tasmanian Antarctic Gateway working group (TAG). TAG has representatives from all levels of government and the Tasmanian Polar Network.
The plan identifies a range of initiatives that will build on Tasmania’s competitive advantages in this sector. The document includes an Action Plan as call to action for the stakeholders.
