Professional Development Program

Taster Day

The Taster day is a one day induction, primarily intended for staff from partnering organisations (Teachers, Community Partners and Referral Professionals), who intend to come out on a WiP course with their clients.  The cost is $100 and provides attendees with information and direct experience of the WiP model of bush counselling. As WiP uses experiential learning for all its other courses, the Taster Day is no different, involving a modest walk that includes discussion on the nature and methodology behind our bush counselling practice.

WiP believes by making our processes open and transparent your understanding of the benefits for participants will be enhanced and this will assist you when identifying clients suitable to participate in a wilderness program.

Wilderness Therapy Course

This course provides an extended experiential learning environment in order to deliver a working knowledge of wilderness therapy fundamentals.  Activities are customised, allowing course participants to experience the disequilibrium experienced by our client groups while group discussions and theory sessions elicit increased understanding of WiP‘s theoretical framework.

This five-day residential is a pre-requisite for WiP course facilitators. However, WiP have also trained police officers, teachers, therapists, counsellors, managers, pathway advisors, conferencing facilitators and many others with whom we partner.

Wilderness Therapy is highly recommended to organisations who engage WiP as an adjunct to their programs to targeted client groups and for those who seek a long term partnership with WiP.

Cost is $500 per person and includes, camp accommodation, materials and specialist equipment.

To attend you need to download and complete the application form.  For information about dates and location please refer to our Course Timetable web page. Please send in the completed application form with $100 deposit to the Wilderness Program, PO Box 943, Rosny Park, Tas 7018.
