Four Tasmanian Champions inducted into Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame

Four Tasmanian champions were inducted into the Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in Launceston on 2 October 2009.

Amidst family, friends and representatives from their sport, each inductee was honoured with a special presentation of their career highlights, after which they impressed the audience with insights into their lives as athletes performing at the highest level of their sport.

Angela Deacon (judo) (represented by her father John Deacon), John McCormack (motor racing), Kylie Risk (athletics) and Alisa Denne (softball) were each presented with a leather-bound honour roll, a traditional hall of fame plinth and a hall of fame member pin by the Minister for Sport and Recreation Michelle O’Byrne and a young athlete from their respective sports.  Read the full story here.

Draft Sport and Recreation Tasmania Strategic Plan released for comment

Sport and Recreation Tasmania has recently undertaken strategic planning for the period 2009-14.

This strategic planning will determine where we are going over the next five years, how we’re going to get there and how we measure progress.

We are very keen to hear from you, our stakeholders, about your thoughts and ideas on the strategic direction we take. Your input is important to ensure that our activities are fulfilling the needs of the sport and recreation sector.

Once we have your feedback we will be in a position to finalise the plan and better respond to the needs of the sector.

The draft Sport and Recreation Tasmania Strategic Plan 2009-14 is now available here.

Feedback will need to be submitted by Friday 9 October 2009 and can be provided in writing via post (GPO Box 646 Hobart Tasmania 7001), email or through the online feedback form.
