Issue number 8 - 12 July 2006

From the Director

The tragic death of Hobart cyclist Kate Tamayo has been a huge shock to the southern Tasmanian cycling community and the sport and recreation sector.

Kate’s contribution to cycling, and women’s sport in particular, are testimony to the commitment and passion she felt for her favourite past-time.

Kate was treasurer of Bicycle Tasmania for six years, instigated the popular Tour de Femme, was a past president of Women’s Sport Tasmania and an advocate for improved cycling conditions.

The accident that took Kate’s life has been a terrible loss for women’s sport in this State. On behalf of everyone at SRT I offer my condolences to Kate’s family and friends, both close to home and in the sporting community at large.
