Tasmania has a long and successful history of mining and mineral exploration. Tasmania’s west coast as one of the most heavily mineralised regions in Australia.

The strong mining industry in Tasmania has lead a number of companies to develop, manufacture and supply mining equipment throughout the world.

Tasmania is an island state, with strong and valuable maritime industry.  The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is the country's national centre for maritime education, training and research. The college is a world-class facility that provides education in the areas of naval architecture, ocean engineering, marine engineering, fisheries, marine resource management, maritime business and maritime operations.
