The Tasmanian Department of Economic Development and Tourism offers a range of free services to business and skilled migrants including:
- airport meet and greet for new arrivals (available Mon-Fri)
- assistance with booking of initial accommodation and car hire (if required)
- one-on-one orientation sessions to assist migrants with establishing themselves in Tasmania, including job hunting, qualifications recognition, checking of CVs, securing rental accommodation and education information
- occupation-specific introduction to employers and recruitment agencies.
- free access to small business assistance through Business Point and a Statewide network of Enterprise Centres (http://www.development.tas.gov.au/business/)
Economic Development and Tourism employs a dedicated Resettlement Officer who will be in contact with you throughout your immigration process, both before and after your arrival.
Depending on when and where you arrive, we may be able to provide you with transport from the airport to your initial accommodation in Hobart. This service needs to be arranged prior to your arrival. You will need to advise how many people will be travelling with you at the time of your arrival, your flight details, and how much luggage you will be bringing.

It is essential that you discuss this via email or telephone as far in advance as possible so we can make the necessary arrangements to meet you and to assist you as much as we possibly can. Please be advised that if we are unable to meet you on your day of arrival, or your arrival time falls outside of office hours, you will have to arrange your own transport. There are taxis and shuttle bus services available at all Tasmanian airports.
Business migrants must visit Tasmania before making an application for State sponsorship.
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism can help you make an exploratory visit to Tasmania by:
- preparation of an itinerary
- introduction to business brokers and commercial real estate agents
- introductions to relevant industry and government contacts.
