I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the 2008-09 Tasmanian Budget, especially some specific initiatives for the Department of Economic Development and Tourism.
We all know that strong and dynamic businesses bring many benefits to Tasmania and, importantly, business and industry make a huge contribution to creating vibrant communities and enhancing the quality of life we enjoy.
We will ensure that our businesses are well supported now and into the future, and we will continue to provide significant funding to all areas of business and industry.
This budget acknowledges and supports our business sector through initiatives to ensure the sustainability of our workforce across the State and promote the growth, efficiency and productivity of our businesses.
The Tasmanian Government also recognises the importance of having a strong brand to promote our unique island state.
The 2008-09 Tasmanian Budget contains a significant new initiative that will further enhance the Tasmanian Brand and ensure that we continue to raise the profile of our brand both nationally and internationally.
I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of the staff involved in preparing this budget. The dedication of all staff within the Department is obvious and very much appreciated.
