Shipbuilding/Marine Manufacturing Opportunities

-          Skilled personnel available
-          Competitive labour environment
-          Local suppliers and contractors available

As an island and a strategic gateway to the Antarctic, Tasmania has a proud and thriving maritime industry with a reputation for outstanding quality.

The Tasmanian marine sector competes globally in the fast ferry, super yacht, work boat and low wake catamaran ferry markets. These companies include Incat, Austal Ships,  Richardson Devine Marine Construction and Life Raft Systems Australia.

All have forged an enviable international reputation.  Tasmania has over 1,800 skilled people potentially available to manufacture component parts for the shipbuilding industry. This skilled workforce is stable and has a proven track record of meeting shipbuilding delivery deadlines and programmed maintenance to large enterprises.

Developing opportunities for the shipbuilding and marine manufacturing sector is a key focus for the Tasmanian Government. The aim is to enable greater scale and scope, leading to increased competitive advantages in securing national and international contracts, including those from defense contractors.

A number of marine related niche products are also produced, including:

  • ship evacuation systems
  • marine antenna systems
  • windlasses, winches and capstans
  • surge protection equipment
  • hydraulic systems.
