Nick is experienced in the development of biotechnology businesses and has well developed networking skills and networks. He has a good knowledge of marine biotechnology processes. Marinova is a growing Tasmanian biotechnology company which extracts a bio-active compound from seaweed for use in the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

Ian Folder, Managing Director, Botanical Resources Australia (BRA)

Ian is experienced in the establishment and growth of a new agricultural biotechnology industry (pyrethrum) in Tasmania and accessing global markets. Botanical Resources Australia produces around 30 per cent of the world's pyrethrum and is actively exploring other high value niche agricultural biotech crops.

Simon Foote , Director, Menzies Research Institute, University of Tasmania

Simon is a human health researcher with experience in spinning out commercial opportunities from research findings. He has good links in the human health biotechnology research sector nationally. Previously, Simon was the joint head of Genetics and Bioinformatics at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne. The Menzies Research Institute has a broad human health research focus with key areas being epidemiology, genetics, neuroscience, diabetic biochemistry and clinical research.

Nick Gough, Chairman, Nick Gough & Associates

Nick is experienced in biotechnology research and commercialisation, strategy and management. He has established extensive nation-wide and New Zealand biotechnology industry and research networks. Nick has previously held senior positions with biotechnology companies in Australia and New Zealand including Amrad and ES Cell International. Nick now operates his own consultancy business providing the interface to drive commercial outcomes from biotechnology research.

Paul Haddad, Director, Australian Centre for Research on Separation Sciences (ACROSS), University of Tasmania

Paul is an experienced scientist with extensive knowledge of separation science and commitment to work with industry to achieve quality commercial outcomes. Paul has a Doctor of Science from the University of New South Wales and is both a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. ACROSS is a part of the University of Tasmania's School of Chemistry and recently secured funding from Pfizer to establish the Pfizer Analytical Research Centre within the university.

Brian Hartnett, Managing Director, Tasmanian Alkaloids

Brian has high level knowledge and experience in the management of a large pharmaceutical focused Agricultural biotechnology company. Tasmanian Alkaloids is the world's largest manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients in Australia and the largest exporter of codeine and thebaine in the world. Brian Hartnett heads up in excess of 200 specialist staff.

Anthony Koutoulis, Head of School (Plant Science), University of Tasmania

Anthony is a member of the Tasmanian Science and Technology Council, Chair of the Tasmanian Branch of AusBiotech (the national biotechnology industry organisation) and an experienced plant scientist. He completed his Bachelor of Science (Hons) and PhD at the University of Melbourne and performed post-doctoral research at the University of Adelaide and Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research in Massachusetts, United States of America. His areas of interest include cell and molecular biology, plant biology, plant breeding, genetics, marine biology, and biotechnology.

Katie McNamara, Director, Terry White Chemists New Norfolk

Katie is highly regarded for her entrepreneurial leadership and strategy in business. Katie holds a bachelor degree in Pharmacy as well as a Master of Business Administration, and was awarded Harvard University's FH Faulding Fellowship for excellence in Pharmacy Management. Katie has been responsible for the strategic and operational management of Terry White Chemists, New Norfolk, since 1997.

Neville Pope, CEO, Selborne Biological Services (Australia) Pty Ltd

Neville is experienced in establishing and growing a new biotechnology business in Tasmania and has developed extensive international partnering and investment networks. Selborne produces and distributes high quality, purified components of animal sera and other biological products for export and use in cell culture, diagnostic and pharmaceutical markets worldwide.

Martin Rees, Managing Partner, KPMG

Martin has a high level of knowledge in the commercialisation of Intellectual Property and small company growth, and is also a member of the Tasmanian Science and Technology Council. Martin leads many financial and strategic consulting assignments in both the public and private sectors and was the founding Director of In-tellinc, the state's information and communication technology incubator funded by the Intelligent Island program.
