The Intelligent Island program aims to contribute to the development of an internationally competitive information and communications technology (ICT) sector in Tasmania. This is being achieved by establishing the CSIRO Tasmanian ICT Centre (TasICTC) and funding projects through the Market Access and Partnership Program (MAPP).
Located in Hobart, the TasICTC has attracted 30 highly qualified staff whose research focuses on issues of national significance that will impact on Tasmania, for example developing tools to better manage and monitor water resources. TasICTC works collaboratively with Tasmanian ICT businesses to commercialise its research outcomes.
MAPP (Funding Recipients)
The Market Access and Partnership Program has funded 32 projects in the fields of e-learning, e-health, aged-care, fishery, agriculture, financial management, general ICT product development and ICT industry development.
