The Industry Councils were established from 1999 to 2002 after the Government undertook extensive industry audits in 1998-99. They were set up to ensure that Tasmanian business, industry, government and the community work together to ensure the sustainability and future growth of industries.
In November 2003, the Tasmanian Government reaffirmed its commitment to the industry councils program. New terms of reference were developed to strengthen the partnership between industry councils and the government in the pursuit of a strategic approach to Tasmania’s Economic Development and Tourism. Each industry council meets regularly and has its own industry plan that it implements in partnership with the department.
