Harvey Nichols buyer visit

Economic Development recently hosted a lunch at the Crown Towers in Melbourne for three Harvey Nichols buyers (Fresh Food, Grocery and Wine) participating in a mission to Australia co-ordinated by Austrade London. The lunch featured fresh Tasmanian produce and wines and enabled seven Tasmanian food companies and seven wine companies to showcase their products and conduct tastings.

The objective of the buyers visit was to source food products for a Harvey Nichols Australian-themed in-store/restaurant promotion in September 2004. This promotion will take place in each of the five Harvey Nichols Food Markets (London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh) as well as the Harvey Nichols in-store and stand alone UK restaurants.

The planned 2004 event is a result of a similar, very successful promotion at Harvey Nichols stores in 2002. More than 200 Australian food and wine products were showcased and the majority were listed in Harvey Nichols stores.

Initial indications are extremely positive and orders for Tasmanian products are expected.
