Tasmania's export statistics

Tasmanian merchandise export statistics for the 2008-2009 financial year have been released by the ABS.  The results show total exports were valued at $3,489 million down $131 million on the previous year.  This reduction was in the main attributable to the reduced global price for zinc where the quantity for 2008/09 was almost similar to the previous year.  Additionally a reduction in the global demand for woodchips impacted on a lesser return than the previous year.

Japan is Tasmania’s largest export market with over $533 million in exports.  Mainland China is the second largest export market followed by the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the United States of America.
