Kingston-based marine equipment manufacturer Muir Engineering Pty Ltd was named the Tasmanian Exporter of the Year for 2004.
In presenting this award, Minister for Economic Development and Tourism Lara Giddings said Muir Engineering was recognised throughout the international marine industry as a leading manufacturer of high-quality, superior performing anchoring systems and deck equipment.
“Its stylish range is exported to more than 40 countries and can be seen in ports around the world, gracing the decks of vessels from small pleasure craft to the luxury mega-yachts.
“This proud Tasmanian, family-owned business has just enjoyed its best year ever with export sales reaching record levels.
“The company continues to lead the world in design innovations, which include the development of a number of new product lines with unique and ground breaking features.”
Ms Giddings said Muir Engineering had demonstrated business acumen, superior quality, industry-leading innovation, outstanding products, exceptional customer support, sustained export growth and job creation.
“As well as being the winner of the Small to Medium Manufacturer Award, Muir Engineering is certainly a worthy winner of the most prestigious award, the Minister’s Tasmanian Exporter of the Year Award 2004.”

- WIN Television Services Award - QMS Certification Services Pty Ltd
- Aurora Energy Small to Medium Manufacturer Award - Muir Engineering Pty Ltd
- Hotel Grand Chancellor Tourism Award - Under Down Under Tours
A new award was announced by Lara Giddings at the Tasmanian Export Awards Dinner on 1 October 2004. This is the Tasmanian Export Leadership Award that will honour exceptional Tasmanians who work in exporting industries.
