Business Point Customer Service Charter

Business Point is a fast, free and confidential information and referral service for people starting and operating a business in Tasmania.

What we do

Business Point can help you with questions about establishing a business, expanding your business, marketing, licensing, accessing government programs and much more. Business Point is also your first point of contact with the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts and can direct your enquiry to the most appropriate officer for assistance. Business Point provides:

  • the fastest way to find out everything you need to know about business licences and permits via the national Australian Business Licence and Information Service (ABLIS)
  • referrals to a local Enterprise Centre who can help you plan and develop your business ideas with free and confidential guidance and support services
  • publications and tools to help you identify issues and develop business skills and knowledge
  • information about any of the department’s programs and services
  • referrals to a range of other government agencies and sources of information.

Our customers can expect

You can expect:

  • prompt, courteous and competent service
  • accurate, reliable and easy to understand information and advice
  • confidentiality.

Our customer standards

Business Point will:

  • provide telephone contact hours from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on business days
  • answer telephone calls within six rings
  • identify ourselves when answering the telephone
  • respond to telephone enquiries within two working days and promptly pass on more complex messages for staff within the department
  • respond appropriately to correspondence within three working days
  • listen and respond to your feedback
  • provide information about other services offered by the department that may assist you
  • refer you to the appropriate officer or department if we are not able to answer your enquiry
  • widely publicise contact points for our agency – telephones, mail, email and internet
  • regularly update our webpage with information on new programs and services, and
  • give general information about licences, programs or grants offered by another agency and provide the relevant contact for more detailed information.

We can help you find lists of experts but cannot recommend any particular business over another to provide a product or service. We will also advise you as soon as practicable if there is likely to be any delay in dealing with your request.

  • clearly stating the purpose of your enquiry
  • providing information that is complete and accurate
  • understand that we are here to help you with general business development information and referrals. We may refer you to another agency or service if we are unable to answer your query or you require complex or specialist advice.
  • treating us with courtesy.
