Workforce Participation Program

All funding under WPP has been allocated and is now closed for applications.

On 12 June 2008, the Minister for Economic Development and Tourism announced the new $2.5 million Workforce Participation Program.

The program aims to:
  • increase workforce participation by encouraging ‘people with workforce potential’ to enter the workforce
  • assist businesses to develop and adopt strategies to retain mature aged workers.

The Workforce Participation Program will do this through three initiatives:

  • pilot workforce planning program to help businesses develop and adopt workforce plans focusing on retaining mature aged workers approaching retirement.  Pilot programs will be held in the building and construction, manufacturing, local government and community services sectors
  • research to more thoroughly understand the obstacles preventing workforce participation
  • grant programs to increase workforce participation by providing financial incentives to organisations to employ ‘people with workforce potential’ who face a barrier to participating and being productive in the workforce.
  • research reports
