The Employer of Choice program, established in 2006, aims to assist employers to attract and retain skilled workers to support the growth and sustainability of their business.
Since its inception the Tasmanian Government has recognised 29 Tasmanian organisations as Employers of Choice and assisted many more.
There are two key elements to the program:
Employer of Choice Awards – to recognise and promote Tasmanian organisations that successfully attract and retain skilled staff by creating a great place to work.
Knowledge sharing events – workshops, forums and information sessions where Tasmanian businesses come together to share ideas about successful workplace practices.
Resources are also available to assist organisations to create a better workplace.
Skilled people want to work for a great employer – see what staff say.
Employees who have a great place to work are:
- more motivated, productive and happier
- advocates of the business and better able to build effective relationships with customers, which is a critical element for business success.
Employers of Choice confirm that creating a great place to work makes business sense because:
- an enhanced reputation helps to win customers and new contracts
- satisfied and engaged staff, whose ideas are valued, are integral to success
- the business is more profitable and sustainable
- higher levels of productivity, leading to better client service, continuous improvement and increased quality
- lower staff turnover and absenteeism, which reduces costs
- better able to attract and retain high quality skilled employees.
