A ‘one-stop-shop’ for business, this free call number acts as a referral service to help businesses, and people looking to start a business, get the advice and information they need.

Young Farmer Interest Rebate scheme

The Tasmanian Government's Young Farmers Interest Rebate Scheme is part of the Sustainable Management of Agricultural Resources in Tasmania (SMART) farming initiative. The scheme is an interest rebate on commercial loans to assist capable young farmers (generally under 40 years of age and who meet the eligibility requirements), to enter the industry, expand an existing enterprise, or improve productivity. Please note: The 2006/07 scheme is now closed. Further funding will be made available in 2007/08.

Enterprise Centre Program

A network of enterprise centres around the State that provide information and practical support to business start-ups, micro business, home-based business and small business.

Enterprise Growth Program

The Enterprise Growth Program provides grants to help eligible Tasmanian businesses to prosper by supporting their growth and sustainability.

Administered Grant Programs

A series of programs designed to help business improve competitiveness, particularly with interstate and global business opportunities. Projects funded include, but are not limited to, strategic planning, marketing, operational improvement, supply chain issues and management skills.

Business Licence Information Service

A free service that provides details of all licenses required to operate a business in Tasmania, including federal, state and local government requirements.

Workforce Development

A program designed to help small to medium businesses identify and plan to meet their skills needs for the future.

Partnerships to Jobs

A program that aims to increase workforce participation, especially disadvantaged job seekers, to ensure a skilled workforce to meet the needs of Tasmanian business.

Business Boost

Our Business Boost Program provides business information and advice in an energetic group environment.  It helps businesses to develop and expand opportunities by increasing management skills, providing information and encouraging networking. 

Mentor Resources Tasmania

A free, small business support program, using volunteer mentors from the business community to help Tasmanian businesses.

REDI Plans

REDI Plans provides business with a comprehensive profile of Tasmania’s economic environment. It includes a hard copy map detailing economic activity around the State, a report from a state-wide survey of Tasmanian business and promotional material of investment opportunities in regional areas.


Innovation, science and technology programs and services

Science and Technology Industry Development Program (STIDP)

Supports the growth of the science and technology industry in Tasmania by providing grants to projects that link Tasmania’s Science and Technology Policy with the Tasmanian Science and Technology Industry Plan.

Market Ready Commercialisation Program (Market Ready)

Provides innovative new and existing businesses with the advanced skills they need to commercialise their products and ideas.

Tasmanian Innovations Program

Provides financial assistance to help commercialise innovative products, processes and services and promote a culture of innovation in the State.

i-cubed Network Seminars

Promotes interaction between innovators, investors and intermediaries to assist with professional development, investment attraction, strategic alliances and consortia building through a series of seminars and evening functions.

Business Over Breakfast

Brings together researchers and business people with the aim of quick information diffusion and opportunities for product development and capacity building.

Technopark Incubator Program

Provides assistance to start-up and existing businesses to accelerate growth, facilitate strategic alliances and to encourage information dissemination and technology transfer with other organisations.

Commercialisation Boot Camps for Researchers

Provides researchers with an understanding of the issues involved in commercialising their research.


Export assistance programs and services

Export Marketing Assistance Scheme

Provides Tasmanian businesses with financial assistance to undertake marketing activities to develop or expand in international markets.

Export Active

A bi-monthly online newsletter that provides information on export and market development activities, industry news, professional development and trade opportunities.

Trade Missions, Exhibitions and Promotions

Help is provided to Tasmanian businesses to form national and international relationships by supporting trade exhibitions, missions and promotions in all industry sectors.

Inward Buyer Progam

Supports visits from national and international buyers. This program includes coordinating visit itineraries and matching business opportunities.

Tasmanian Export Awards

Recognises the export success of local businesses and raises awareness of the significant contribution exports make to the State’s economy.

Export Skills Development Program

Provides export personnel with workshops and seminars to develop their knowledge and skills of contemporary export practices.

International Education

Promotes Tasmania as an education destination for international students through our marketing and recruitment activities for TAFE Tasmania and Tasmanian Government Schools and through the Tasmanian Education Alliance. Programs include participation in overseas education expos, an overseas agent familiarisation program and advertising in selected education journals.

Business and Skilled Migration

We act as sponsoring authority for a range of business and skilled migration visa categories. We also promote the State internationally at migration exhibitions and provide assistance to migration agents who promote migration to Tasmania to key overseas markets.

Brand Tasmania

As a council member of the independent Brand Tasmania Inc. initiative, we work with industry councils and government departments to heighten the profile, quality and value of Tasmanian products and services. We also encourage ownership of the Tasmanian brand by Tasmanian enterprises and the community.


Industry development programs and services

We work closely with Tasmania’s industries to develop their short and long-term capability and competitiveness.   Part of this involves a targeted approach to attracting investment into Tasmania, identifying opportunities and encouraging reinvestment.  It also involves providing project facilitation services, support and encouragement for strategic alliances, networks and clusters and delivering quality financial facilitation services across a range of industry sectors including; resource industries, manufacturing, information and communication technology, food and beverage and finance and business services.  Examples of our activities include:

  • Encouraging telecommunications infrastructure investment
  • Promoting Tasmania as an excellent location for information and communication technology development and testing
  • Developing our mining resource industries by helping companies expand and attracting new investment
  • Helping to value add to our natural resource industry through initiatives such as a proposed world-class pulp mill in Tasmania
  • Assisting substantial new investment in the energy industry
  • Assisting major new property and tourism infrastructure development
  • Supporting the manufacturing industry by promoting lean manufacturing principles at an enterprise level and on a wider basis through open days and the bi-annual Manufacturing Conference
  • Supporting the contact centre and back office processing sectors and promoting Tasmania as a preferred location for these sectors
  • Supporting our food and beverage industries through initiatives such as industry forums, research and opportunity reports, financial support, education, seminars and access to new markets
  • Ensuring that a full range of finance options are available by establishing networks and encouraging new providers of capital to the State
  • Promoting opportunities for Tasmanian companies to participate in major projects, government procurement and commercial developments through the Industry Capability Network (ICNTAS). INCTAS provides industries and purchasers with a free sourcing service to identify Tasmanian companies capable of supplying those items that would otherwise be imported.


Antarctic Tasmania

Through Antarctic Tasmania, we promote the State as a centre for Antarctic, Sub-Antarctic and temperate marine activity and encourage national and international communities to recognise and use Tasmania as a gateway to the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.

Support for the Antarctic Business Community

By supporting initiatives such as the Tasmanian Polar Network and assisting individual businesses, we aim to increase the participation of local companies in the supply of goods and services to the Antarctic sector.

Support for Antarctic Sector Organisations

By providing ongoing assistance to international organisations such as the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels (ACAP) and Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP), we aim to increase the number of satisfied, Antarctic sector organisations that use Hobart as a base for their management, operations and resupply activities.

Support for Hobart as the gateway to the Antarctic

Each year we provide financial and administrative support to the Antarctic community to run the Antarctic Midwinter Festival to raise the profile of Hobart’s Antarctic community with Tasmanians, the international Antarctic community and potential visitors. We also produce promotional materials, including websites, brochures, and lecture series to promote the sector and the benefits of using Hobart as the gateway to Antarctica.


Screen Tasmania

Through Screen Tasmania we provide a wide range of assistance to the State’s developing screen industry. Screen Tasmania also works to promote the State nationally as a film and production location, and supports film festivals across the State.

Production Funding

Provides production assistance for feature films, television series, mini-series and telemovies, documentaries, short films and multimedia.

Producers Assistance program

Provides program participants with financial support throughout early stages of project development to a point where they can attract full production finance.

Industry and Cultural Development

Assistance is available to extend the skills and networks of professional film makers or to promote screen products.

Goodwood Television and Film Studio

This facility is rated in the top five per cent of available studios in Australia. It is suitable for a wide range of uses including television, feature films, shorts, music videos, training and still shoots.

Script and Project Development

We provide financial assistance and general support for the script and project development of films, television series, mini-series and telemovies, documentaries and multimedia projects.

Cut and Polish Screenwriting Initiative

An intensive screenwriting workshop for experienced and committed writers who have the drive to develop their writing skills for film.

Film Festivals

We support a diverse range of film festivals to promote Tasmanian films and the film industry across the State. These include the Roaring Forties Film Festival which highlights new Tasmanian films, the Longest Night Film Festival and Far Flung Flicks.

Mini Mentor Program

A free service that provides filmmakers with access to advice from a selection of experienced professionals about particular practical issues they face as they undertake their projects.



Sport and Recreation Tasmania

How we support sport and recreation

We believe that all Tasmanians should be provided with opportunities to participate in sport, recreation and physical activity.  Participation provides a substantial range of benefits for individuals and the community including enjoyment and social activity as well as the expected health and physical benefits.

Having a healthy community is vital to the economy of Tasmania. Active and healthy people are less prone to injury and illness and are more productive at home, in the workplace and in the community. Furthermore,  employees are attracted to businesses located in communities that offer superior lifestyle benefits. Sport and Recreation Tasmania delivers a number of activities to support happy, healthy communities across Tasmania.

Assistance

Sport and Recreation Tasmania provides strategic advice and financial assistance to sport and recreation providers in the State. We administer five grant programs annually that provide funding for facility development and expansion, equipment purchase, hosting of national championships in the State and the employment of trainees within the industry.

Sport and Recreation Industry Awards for Excellence

As part of our investment in the industry, we recognise excellence in the fields of sport and recreation through our annual Sport and Recreation Industry Awards for Excellence.

The Premier’s Physical Activity Council

The Premier’s Physical Activity Council aims to increase physical activity levels of Tasmanians through promotion and provision of community based events.  Through the Tasmanian Physical Activity Plan, the council provides a coordinated approach to address the issue of physical inactivity in Tasmania.  It encourages more Tasmanians to make physical activity a regular part of their lifestyle.

Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS)

The TIS provides leadership and high quality support services to help Tasmania’s talented athletes compete successfully on the international stage.

Athletes receive coaching, training and competition opportunities, access to career and education advice and a wide range of sports performance services such as sports science testing and strength and conditioning advice.

Through our participation in school and community information projects, we help develop athletes’ personal presentation skills and provide positive role models for young people.

TIS Talent Search Program

This program identifies individuals who have the potential to become elite athletes and achieve success at the national and international level. We then provide these athletes with links to local clubs and coaches that can foster their potential.
