Enterprise Growth Program

What is it?

The Enterprise Growth Program (the program) is aligned with the Tasmanian Government’s strategic priorities and helps eligible Tasmanian businesses to identify, evaluate and invest in projects or activities which will significantly improve their performance, growth and productivity.

How could my business benefit?

The grant can help your business meet the cost of engaging expertise to provide advice on:

Tier 1 – Business Review, Planning and Strategies:

  • Financial management
  • Increasing off island trade of products or services
  • Environmental and waste management
  • Increasing efficiency and/or productivity

Tier 2 – Implementing Business Growth and Sustainability Initiatives:

  • Implementing new or innovative processes that provide efficiency gains for the business
  • Introducing new technology or equipment directly resulting in new off island exports or import replacement opportunities
  • Implementing workforce planning initiatives to support sustainable growth or productivity gains
  • Implementing new national marketing strategies such as meeting suppliers, distributors and customers where new business growth opportunities have been Identified or brokering new market opportunities.

Is my business eligible?

Applications will be accepted from Tasmanian businesses that:

  • have the capacity to export goods or services interstate or overseas, replace imports into Tasmania or are an integral part of the supply chain1 to export or import replacement businesses
  • have an indicative turnover that exceeds $500,000 per annum
  • are registered for goods and service tax (GST)

Please note that on submitting an application a further assessment will be conducted by the department prior to any recommendation of an application for approval.

1 An example of a supply chain business is a provider of essential components or services that are key inputs into the production of export goods or services.

What is being offered?

Tier 1 – Business Review, Planning and Strategies:

Applicants are generally able to apply for grants of up to $15 000 on a dollar for dollar basis to cover eligible expenditure that helps the business meet the cost of engaging an expert or specialist to provide advice, undertake a business diagnostic and/or develop a business plan.

Applications are assessed on a rolling basis with applicants being advised of the outcome within 10 business days of submission.

Tier 2 – Implementing Business Growth and Sustainability Initiatives:

Applicants are generally able to apply for funding representing 25 per cent of the project’s cost and up to a maximum of $50 000. For example, if the project costs $100 000, then the maximum the department will contribute is $25 000. Funding is to be used to help the business implement growth or improved productivity initiatives. This must be as a result of Tier 1 planning activity or specified actions identified in the businesses own strategic planning processes.

Due to limited funding and given previous demand for Tier 2 grants, applications will be assessed on a competitive basis at regular intervals throughout the year.

Who cannot apply for assistance?

The following types of organisations are NOT eligible for assistance:

  • any government body or agency
  • businesses that are not physically located in Tasmania
