Business Point is a referral service that can guide you on where to access information on starting or growing a business.

Information and Referral Services

Wouldn’t it be great if there was one number you could call to find out all you needed to know about starting or growing your business.  There is.  Business Point is a free confidential referral and information service for Tasmanian business.

The range of support that Business Point provides are outlined below.  Calling Business Point will ensure you headed in the right direction, the first time.


Business Licence Information Service (BLIS)

Business Licence Information Service (BLIS) is the fastest way of finding out everything you need to know about business licences, permits and compulsory codes of practice from State, Commonwealth and Local governments.

BLIS can answer all of your questions, including:

  • should I register a business name?
  • what licences apply to my business?
  • where do I obtain the licences that I need?
  • how much do licences cost?
  • what period of time do the licence cover?

BLIS information is available on the website www.blis.tas.gov.au



Referral services

Our Business Point team works in partnership with a network of Enterprise Centres located around the State.  Business counsellors within these centres can help you develop your idea for a new business, help with business planning and help develop management skills.

A Business Enterprise Centre can provide you with:

  • practical self help publications
  • business mentoring programs
  • referrals to specialist programs and
  • general business advice.

A referral to a Business Enterprise Centre is free and completely confidential.


Program information service

Are you looking to expand your business but need some assistance?  We have a range of programs that you may be eligible to access including:

  • Women in Business Program
  • Enterprise Development Program
  • Export and Market Development
  • Commercialising innovative products

Our Business Point consultant will be able to advise you of criteria for each program.


BizTas

BizTas is a self-managed, free Government website for business contacts.

BizTas enables you to have a current business listing available on-line, which can be  updated at any stage to reflect  new products or services.

Online resources

You can access electronic copies of the department’s 22 small business guides from the department’s website by clicking here.

These guides provide key points to remember when starting a business.  Some of the topics include:

  • operations
  • marketing and
  • finance.
