International conferences and meetings

Hobart is a natural setting for conventions, conferences, meetings and other events relating to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.

The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) holds its annual meeting at its historic sandstone headquarters.  This event attracts nearly 200 delegates from 31 countries to Hobart.

Both the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP) and the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) have held very successful events in Hobart.

The regular sub-Antarctic forum is held every second year. It draws delegates from around the world.

In 2012 Hobart will host the 35th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting.

35th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting 2012

Hobart will showcase its unique Antarctic capabilities as the host city of the 35th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting.  The decision to hold the meeting in Hobart further consolidates the city's position as a centre for Antarctic and Southern Ocean events and activities.

The meeting will focus the attention of Australia and the world on Antarctica, the importance of Antarctic science, and the protection of Antarctica’s environment.

This major international forum will also be an opportunity to showcase Tasmania’s Antarctic industry to hundreds of diplomats, Antarctic program managers, logistics experts, scientists and support staff.

Tasmanian Convention Bureau

A dedicated organisation, the Tasmanian Convention Bureau, provides conference organisers with a range of assistance to stage memorable, cost-effective and successful events for any number of delegates.  Its experienced staff can save event organisers hours of work by providing independent, expert advice and support on every aspect of an event.

You may even be rewarded financially for choosing a Tasmanian venue if your event is held in May-September, outside the state’s tourism season.
