About Us

Economic Development and Tourism Structure

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism reports to the Minister for Economic Development and Tourism and to the Minister for Sport and Recreation. Several boards and statutory authorities have governance responsibilities for specific functions administered by our department.

Tasmania Development and Resources is established under the provisions of the Tasmanian Development Act 1983 to encourage and promote the balanced Economic Development and Tourism of Tasmania.

Economic Development and Tourism also provides administrative support to a number of independent entities. These are the Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority (SCWA), Brand Tasmania, Interim Secretariat for the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels (ACAP), the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP) and the Tasmanian Leaders Program.

Departmental structure

We implement our strategies and initiatives through four divisions, each with a number of focused business units.

1. Industry Development – responsible for investment, key industry sector support and export and market development.

2. Business and Community Development – responsible for enterprise support for small and medium businesses, sport and recreation, innovation and employment.

3. Corporate Support – responsible for key organisational support activities including finance, human resources, compliance, information technology and information systems.

4. Governance and Strategy – responsible for key strategic services including communications, board support, ministerial liaison, investment attraction, corporate strategy and organisational development.
