Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act 1991 (FOI Act) gives you the right to:

• obtain access to information held by this department (and by other Tasmanian agencies including government departments, ministers, local councils and other public authorities)
• request amendment to personal information held by those bodies that is inaccurate, incomplete, misleading or out of date
• seek a review by the body or by the Ombudsman of a decision where access to information has not been granted or a request to amend personal records has been refused.

While it is not essential to use a particular form, an FOI Request Form can be downloaded from the link below. The same range of information could be included in a letter requesting the information but the use of the request form will assist in formulating your request and also assist the agency in responding to the request.
